Legendary post-punk band Maximum Joy formed in Bristol, England in 1979. Following 4 singles & album, Station MXJY, the band split in 1983, and Rainforth (along with other founder members and new additions) reformed the band again briefly in 2015 - to perform at Simple Things, Bristol. Since reforming Janine Rainforth, along with fellow Maximum Joy founder member Charlie Llewellin and new alliances, grew MXMJoY:.

Rainforth says – “This has been great being able to go into a new chapter as it were, and great to now bring this new chapter to fruition and share the fruits publicly..! It's been great to collaborate with Charlie and other players and alliances on new music. After reforming Maximum Joy in summer 2015 and playing at Simple Things - Charlie and I found we were thinking along the same lines musically - we hadn't played (or hung out) together for about 30 years - so it was quite unexpected. From that we shared a strong drive to make new music but under a new guise – I’d been making & performing my solo music, so it’s been great to collaborate and go in a different direction musically. As a band (Maximum Joy) previously, as individuals and with the new outfit MXMJoY now - there's always been a drive to evolve, experiment - changing, evolving, embracing new sounds and new influences – to bring into the mix. I guess the sounds and things that informed us and sparked with us then – to name a few = punk; funk; synth pop; disco; dub; hip-hop; free jazz; – have not changed – inevitably of course there are now new influences - electro; grime; new jazz to name a few."

These MXMJoY tracks are clearly not re-runs of Maximum Joy – we’re excited to finally share these new sounds with you - we’re into a new era, new blood and new sounds .."
