Upon achieving massive success as founding members of the Jefferson Airplane, longtime friends Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady would soon look for other ways to expand their love of traditional blues and rock, evolving into the inventive and successful Hot Tuna. One of the first jam bands of its kind, the duo has continued either acoustically or as full-tilt rockers for over five decades now, and their importance is measured by their amazing run of chart albums and concerts going back to the late sixties.

Their sixth album, Yellow Fever, would be released in 1975, and it also was their second power trio outing following their hit America's Choice. Yellow Fever features Rock Hall of Famer Jorma Kaukonen's stunning vocal and lead guitar artistry, Rock Hall of Famer Jack Casady's powerful, intricate bass, and Bob Steeler's return as the band's drummer.

This power trio setting would reveal on record how tight the band played, loud and free, no studio gimmickry, and a true sense of believing in what they laid down on vinyl.

The self-produced album would also become one of the more defining alternative rockers of 1975 as it featured the progressive and creative symmetry that the fans were yearning for.

The Hot Tuna rocker opens up with their mutual love of the blues with Jimmy Reed's classic "Baby, What You Want Me to Do" and continues with more powerful fare from the pen of Jorma's Kaukonen with "Free Rein" and "Bar Room Crystal Ball." "Half/Time Saturation" and "Surphase Tension" showcase the "live" sound they created in the studio. All in all, Yellow Fever remains one of the finest albums in Hot Tuna's huge catalog of amazing albums.
