At the time of its release in 1972, School's Out made Alice Cooper and his lethal band the biggest names in rock. The title track alone united people of all stripes and to this day remains one of the most recognized songs ever recorded. Yet Cooper and Co. throw down the gauntlet throughout this amazingly executed concept album, embracing cabaret, Broadway, garage rock, pop, and dollops of punk in creating what was the most fully realized and accessibly complex effort of Cooper's career. On top of the music, Cooper sings as if his life depends on it, infusing songs with a timbre that's equal parts sinister and sympathetic, in the process establishing the personality vocals that would later define rock.
