REISSUE OF THE WEEK
I know you’ve heard me gush about the work of Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co., etc.), but this week is a very special reissue that I’ve been waiting on for years. Although “Didn’t It Rain” was the first S:O/Molina album I heard, “IMPALA” was the one that drove a nail straight through my soul, the album that still defines Molina’s work for me. I cannot recommend “IMPALA” highly enough for fans of somber, honest, singer-songwriters. A bit lo-fi and a bit raw, but the songs shine as strong as anything in the S:O catalog. When you’re deep in your feelings, it’s time to listen to “IMPALA.”

NEW RELEASE(s) OF THE WEEK
For the quiet pick we gotta go with Ethel Cain, “Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You.” I really enjoyed her streaming album “Perverts,” and the new record “Willoughby Tucker...” seems like a beautiful middle ground between that one and “Preacher’s...” Beautiful singer/songwriter atmospheres and wonderful vocal layering. GET SAD.
The noisy new pick this week is the new OSEES jam, “Abomination Revealed At Last.” Not familiar with them? Well there’s lots dig into! They’ve gone through a lot of style changes over the years, ranging between indie folk/garage/psych/kraut/punk/synth/freakouts. This new record finds the swinging pendulum of their sound sitting right in the middle of the last 5 records. Garage/psych/synth/punky/high energy. Highly recommended and the trippy cover art is sick. New OSEES day is Parker’s favorite day!
