There is QUITE the lineup this week for new releases & reissues, so we gotta get down to business. I was hoping the new Wailin’ Storms would arrive today, but no deliveries yet so we’ll highlight that one later when they show up.
ADAM’S PICKS:
New release: PANDA BEAR & SONIC BOOM - A ? OF WHEN
I was surprised to find myself digging the new Panda Bear collab with Sonic Boom, something typically not up my alley. I had always head Panda Bear and Animal Collective stuff in passing through friends’ listening, but this is the first time I’ve found myself intentionally putting it on. Dreamy indie pop, super catchy, fun songs. I can’t think of something better for summer day vibes.
Reissue: OM - PILGRIMAGE
FINALLY reissued, one of my favorite OM records. The band is of course comprised of original SLEEP members Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, the final to feature the latter on drums. Meditative and atmospheric, this is their third record and first time working with Steve Albini. A true under appreciated gem in the history of American music. There are insane grooves here that just draw you into other realms of consciousness. Let it envelop you. If the transition between the first two tracks doesn’t hit you then you don’t like good jams and that’s your problem. One of the greatest A-sides of all time. The Panda Bear record is for summer days, this one’s for summer nights.
