White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan 2LP
With its title a quotation of Jesus from the gospel of Matthew, this is quite possibly the most well-known album with "Satan" in the title, all due respect to the Louvin Brothers. Recorded on the stairway of Jack White's home in the Indian Village neighborhood of Detroit, 2005's Get Behind Me Satan features marimba, tympani, mandolin and bells, as well as the usual guitar and drums and piano. The oddball masterpiece was not commercially issued on vinyl until ten years after its initial release.
More acoustic and less electric, with more piano and less guitar than previous efforts, the LP charted at No. 3, won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album while the track "My Doorbell" was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. On the Modern Rock chart, "Blue Orchid" hit No. 1, "The Denial Twist" No. 5 and "My Doorbell" No. 13. "Truth is sort of the number one theme throughout the whole album," White told NPR ahead of the record's original release, and the power of the truth is readily apparent here.
